What is Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy? It is not what is often portrayed on TV programmes or the theatre, where a person is influenced to cluck like a chicken, bark like a dog, or do something else that will embarrass them in some way. You are always in control of what is happening, and you are never made to do anything that you don’t want to do. It is a very reliable method of treatment that can assist with all sorts of issues, especially those stemming from an emotional centre, and help you to achieve many different goals.

Essentially, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, with the hypnotherapist being there to help facilitate changes.

Reprogramming the subconscious with positive images and emotions is the key to changing our unwanted habits and behaviours, unleashing our potential, and finding solutions to our problems and concerns.

Hypnotherapy deals with the issue of beliefs and behaviour at the deepest levels of your being and offers a technique to anchor new beliefs into your subconscious.

FAQ

Every session is bespoke and tailored to the client’s needs. You can expect a positive experience knowing that you have made a true investment to your health and wellbeing.

Depending on your requirements we use a unique blend of NLP, CBT, with the hypnotherapy to find out your specific needs and get to the root cause of any issue.

These services can all be offered online to experience in the comfort of your own home.

I am very passionate about my work and the outcome of your therapy, so I recognise that every client’s needs are different and so is the level of support they might need.

This is why I have developed a unique bespoke approach, and the number of appointments can vary from 1-2 session for smoking cessation, whereas other treatments can be anywhere between 6 and 12 sessions. This is person- and progress-dependent though and it is very difficult to predict as each person is different and will respond differently to hypnosis. Until we use hypnosis, we have no way of telling how effective it will be for you.

As a rough guide, we find that appointments work best 1 to 2 weeks apart, certainly in the initial stages. Longer periods between sessions can lessen the momentum as more time is spent “catching up” each time. As the therapy progresses it is quite common for the need for fortnightly sessions to lessen, and they can become three weekly or monthly. Some clients then choose to end their sessions completely, while others continue to come monthly to “check – in” until they feel able to finish completely. Even when ended, there is always the option to come back at a later date.

The initial consultation session lasts about 90 minutes and subsequent sessions last up to an hour.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It is safe and effective and has successfully helped people overcome a vast range of conditions emotionally, mentally, and physically. At the end of each session, you are brought out of trance by the hypnotherapist. You are also able to come round by yourself whenever you were ready to.

Most people can be hypnotised if they’re willing – you can’t be hypnotised against your will. Watching television or being completely immersed in a movie is a form of hypnosis.

Yes, you are in complete control of yourself, you will not say or do anything against your will. If you are not comfortable sharing information, hypnotherapy is a great way of getting to the root cause of the problem; you don’t need to divulge anything you are not comfortable with.

Absolutely not. Comedy/stage hypnosis has very little to do with Clinical Hypnotherapy and has been shown to foster misconceptions which can prevent people from benefiting from treatment. Clinical Hypnotherapy is very different, and it would be unethical for a Clinical Hypnotherapist to practice the type of tricks on their clients that a stage hypnotist employs. Our job is to work with our clients to effect positive changes in behaviour that they want to achieve.

Please ask for an initial consultation to discuss your issues further. No trance work will take place at the initial consultation if you do not wish to be hypnotised, and no charge will be made if you are not happy to proceed.

At the initial consultation you will be given lots of opportunity to ask any questions you may have about hypnotherapy before committing yourself. You will be given the time to discuss your issues in an entirely confidential environment and together we will decide the best course of action.

What happens during hypnotherapy

When you are in hypnosis, you do not enter a state of deep sleep. Rather, you go into a lovely, lazy, daydream- type feeling, where you are in full control and a higher state of awareness. In this state, the conscious mind is suppressed, and the subconscious mind is allowed to come forward. During this time, the therapist will be able to work with your subconscious mind to enable you to positively change your life and make positive improvements. For example, you may be able to overcome irrational fears (such as spiders), finally shake those negative thoughts and emotions, and work through suppressed traumas and emotions that may be holding you back.

Hypnotherapy has been known to be useful for so many things such as:

  • Quitting smoking
  • Losing weight
  • Anxiety,
  • Depression,
  • Panic attacks

In a hypnotherapy situation, you will be fully aware of your surroundings and the situation; you will hear traffic outside, or perhaps a dog barking. These outside noises will not bother you as you will be enjoying that lovely daydream feeling that puts you in a higher state of awareness, meaning that you are physically and mentally relaxed so that you can let go of the analytical part of yourself.

Hypnotherapy will only be as effective as you want it to be, it can help you achieve your goals, but it cannot make you achieve them.
